A study of Google SERP click-through rates found which genre-rich results generated the most clicks on average.
A new study has found that all rich results in Google SERPs are not created equal — at least not when it comes to click-through rates. Milestone Research analyzed more than 4.5 million queries to find that users clicked on rich results 58% of the time, compared to 41% for non-rich results.
It’s no shock that users are more likely to click on rich search results than regular organic search results. What’s eye-opening about this study is how much the CTR can vary depending on the type of rich result. For some types of rich results, the CTR can be as high as 87%.
The study also looked at branded results versus non-branded results, which may generate more clicks. Here are some takeaways from the study that can help marketers get more clicks from organic search results.

The average CTR for all standard results on page one is 49.5%. This means that results get most clicks half of all searches will result in a click on an organic search result. AMP = Highest and Lowest CTR
AMP was responsible for both the highest and lowest CTR in the study.
Non-rich AMP results generate the most clicks per 100 searches, with a 92% CTR.
AMP articles, on the other hand, have the lowest CTR at just 15%. AMP articles are the rich version of AMP results. Therefore, it is much more beneficial to have AMP articles indexed in standard results than in the top news carousel.
FAQ = Top performing rich results
The average CTR for FAQ rich results that include installing wordPress using the admin panel and non-branded keywords is 87%. Milestone Research says this is the highest of results get most clicks types studied. If you exclude branded keywords, the CTR for FAQ rich results rises to 91%.
Rich video effects are also good
This study shows that video thumbnails appear in more than a quarter of search results. Video rich results that include both branded and non-branded keywords have a 62% click-through ao lists them one of the highest performing rich result types. Contrary to FAQ rich results, videos receive more clicks in Google searches when there are branded keywords in the query.
